MY NAME IS JESSE CODY

the wilderness explorer behind the mantra and now a nonprofit organization, Hike The Good Hike.

The mission of Hike The Good Hike (HTGH) emerged from my personal struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts. Hiking into the healing embrace of the wilderness provided me with both purpose and a renewed reason to live.

We are dedicated to raising mental health awareness through the transformative power of hiking. I am thrilled to announce that we are further evolving our mission as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

In the summer of 2021, I completed a 1,300-mile through-hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, during which I raised over $30,000 in donations for the Youth Mental Health Project in Dobbs Ferry, NY. This hike served as an audition for what HTGH is capable of achieving in the realm of mental health advocacy.

The response and support we’ve received have been overwhelmingly positive, instilling confidence that our platform can foster fundraising efforts and open discussions about mental illness and available treatment options.

Establishing HTGH as a recognized nonprofit organization and elevating our voice within mental health advocacy conversations are imperative. To facilitate this, we seek partnerships with organizations that conduct research on the benefits of wilderness therapy, provide wilderness therapy programs, or leverage nature as a catalyst for helping those grappling with mental health challenges. Our goal is to collaborate and support these organizations as we grow.

HTGH will shine a light on the myriad stories concerning mental illness in communities across the country—stories of both tragedy and hope—by offering a dedicated space on our website for contributors to share their experiences, illustrating the profound benefits of nature on mental health. Additionally, I will offer my services for speaking engagements, webinars, and panel discussions focused on wilderness exploration and its positive impact on the mind.

I am eager to forge partnerships with organizations that promote mental health through outdoor experiences, including outdoor adventure companies. We will actively pursue collaborative ventures and sponsorships. These avenues for support and encouragement will empower us to create, nurture, and cultivate a vibrant community that fosters meaningful change in the mental health landscape.
